BOUNTIFUL — A truck driver died Monday night after crossing a freeway off-ramp and crashing, officials said.
The accident occurred while the man, who was northbound on I-15 in Bountiful, drifted across the roadway, crossing the on-ramp and continuing off the shoulder where his semitrailer struck a support for an overhead sign, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Mike McKay said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, McKay said.
Troopers believe the crash was caused by a medical incident based on the way the vehicle traveled across the road, according to the lieutenant.
According to UHP, investigators do not yet know whether the man died as a result of the crash or the medical incident.
The man's name was not immediately released pending notification of family members but McKay said he was from the Salt Lake Valley.
