NEW YORK (AP) — The Heisman Trophy belongs to an Oklahoma Sooners quarterback for the second straight year. Kyler Murray edged out Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa for college football most prestigious individual honor. The announcement comes three weeks before Murray and the Sooners take on Tagovailoa the Crimson Tide in the CFP semifinals. It'll be the seventh bowl matchup of Heisman winner and runner-up. Murray stepped into the starting job held by last year's Heisman winner and top NFL draft pick, Baker Mayfield.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dedric Lawson had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 2 Kansas got past New Mexico State 63-60 in the Jayhawk Shootout. The Jayhawks' offense stalled after a hot start in their first game without injured center Udoka Azubuike, going scoreless for over five minutes in the first half. But they put it together late, as Lawson's layup with just under four minutes left gave them their first lead since the first half. New Mexico State missed a late 3-point attempt that would have tied it.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Beetle Bolden scored 18 points to lead West Virginia to a 69-59 win over archrival Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl. The Mountaineers won the defensive slugfest by doing what they do best, force turnovers. Pitt's 24 turnovers led to 22 points for their former Big East rivals. WVU also struggled however, with 25 turnovers throughout the game, the most by a Mountaineer team since 2002.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Christian James had 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to help Oklahoma defeat Wichita State 80-48 at Chesapeake Energy Arena. James, the Big 12's leading scorer, made 3 of 6 3-pointers. Oklahoma held the Shockers to 24.2 percent shooting and now have held three of their past four opponents under 60 points. Markis McDuffie scored 19 points for Wichita State.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Martins Igbanu made a go-ahead jump hook with 1:51 remaining, and Tulsa edged No. 16 Kansas State 47-46. Curran Scott scored 14 points for Tulsa, and Igbanu had nine points and six rebounds. The Hurricane got their second straight victory against the Big 12, also topping Oklahoma State 74-71 on Wednesday.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Armoni Brooks scored 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help lead Houston over Oklahoma State 63-53. Brooks shot 7-of-13 from 3-point range, tying a career-high, for the Cougars. Corey Davis Jr. added 14 points and seven rebounds for Houston.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia quarterback Will Grier won't play for the 15th-ranked Mountaineers in the Camping World Bowl against No. 17 Syracuse and instead will focus on preparation for the NFL draft. Grier announced his decision in a statement released by West Virginia. He was a Heisman contender this season and a finalist for the Maxwell Award as player of the year. Grier averaged 351 yards passing and threw 37 touchdown passes.
