SALT LAKE CITY — Redshirt freshman Vante Hendrix is leaving the University of Utah basketball team six games into the season.
The 6-foot-5 guard out of Los Angeles, California announced on Instagram Tuesday that he was leaving the program.
“My experience at Utah was great but sadly sometimes things aren’t just for you,” he said. “But I am glad I got the experience to play at the University of Utah. I wish the Utah Utes basketball team a successful year.”
Hendrix, who joined the team in 2017, sat out all of last season to redshirt and gain experience. He entered the season as one of a handful of young players to join the roster in a rebuilding season for the program.
Hendrix played in four games this season, averaging 7.8 points per game and shooting 45.0 percent from the field. He earned a technical foul in Utah’s loss to Hawaii on Thanksgiving Day and failed to get any playing time in Utah’s games against Grand Canyon and Northwestern.
Utah has a 3-3 record on the season and has struggled to score points, particularly in their recent Wooden Legacy tournament in California. Hendrix becomes the latest member of the Utah basketball team to transfer. The program has seen several players transfer over the last few years.
