Taipei (dpa) - A Taiwanese woman was sentenced to two years, eight months in jail for severing her husband's penis with a pair of scissor while he was asleep, a newspaper reported Saturday.

Tang Ai-ling, 31, said she wanted to punish her husband, Liu, for taking a second wife while on business in China - which he denied, the United Daily News said.

Doctors reattached the penis after the March 17 incident.

But the trauma "damaged Liu's self-esteem so much that he has locked himself up in his room ever since, refusing to meet even his family members," the paper quoted the Nantou District Court judge as saying in passing the verdict.
