NORTH SALT LAKE — A 23-year-old man was critically injured after crashing the motorcycle he was riding on the eastbound onramp from Redwood Road to I-215 Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the man was taking the onramp to the freeway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed and went down an embankment shortly before 5 p.m.

Officials said the man was not wearing a helmet and no other vehicles were involved. The man was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in critical condition.

The onramp was closed for a time while law enforcement authorities investigated the scene, but has since reopened.

This crash remains under investigation.
