SALT LAKE CITY — Home is everything.
That’s the message in a new video campaign entitled “Letters to Utah” by Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. The two videos, which were released Friday, are part of Vivint Smart Home multi-year advertising and marketing partnership with the two Jazz icons.
The ad campaign, which is intended to combat the numerous farewell letters from athletes as they leave a city and team, show Mitchell and Gobert around the state as they interact with fans and talk about their love of the state.
In one of the video “letters,” Mitchell says he’s grateful for all the moments he’s experienced in Utah thus far and is “always thinking about making you proud, making you get on your feet, making sure I do everything I can to bring home a W.” He adds, though, that “this isn’t a farewell letter, it’s the promise of a new chapter.
“And although I’ll always be just a kid from Connecticut, I’ll always be a rookie from Utah, because this feels like home; and home is everything.”
Gobert starts his “letter” in his native language of French, saying that Utahns have embraced and cheered him on, and have chanted his name. Switching to English, Gobert adds: “Now, I speak your language. Now, you’re more than fans; you’re family. This letter is not the end, it’s just the beginning. Because Utah is not just where I live, it’s not just where I play, it’s where I feel at home. And home is everything.”
Utah will play its season home opener Friday as they host the defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors at 8:30 p.m. at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
