LAYTON — A 41-year-old man riding a bicycle died after a car hit him on a highway in Layton Monday night, police said.

The man was riding the bike east on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 193 about 9:30 p.m. when a car traveling in the same direction veered out of its traffic lane, into the shoulder and hit the man, according to Layton Police Sgt. Kyle Schroeder.

The man, identified as David Long, of Layton, died from injuries, Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said.

The woman who was driving the car is cooperating with investigators, Schroeder added.
