SALT LAKE CITY — Fire crews increased containment of the Coal Hollow Fire in Spanish Fork Canyon by 16 percent in one day, officials said.

Also, the U.S Forest Service reports a new fire is burning in the Mount Nebo Wilderness Area. The Bald Mountain Fire likely started by lightning on Thursday.

The Coal Hollow Fire was 64 percent contained on Thursday and, as of Friday morning, was at 80 percent containment, according to Utah Fire Info. The blaze has scorched nearly 30,000 acres.

All evacuation orders and national forest closures remain in effect in the Manti-La Sal National Forest south of U.S. Highway 6.

The fire began Aug. 4 after a lightning strike sparked dry brush in the area.
