WEST VALLEY CITY — A grass fire sparked near the Bacchus Highway forced the closure of the road for a couple hours Monday afternoon.

The fire started at around 3:30 p.m. near 5400 South, according to West Valley Fire Battalion Chief Bob Fitzgerald.

Windy weather caused the flames to spread quickly, threatening some structures, Fitzgerald said. Both directions of the highway were shut down between 4100 South and 5400 South until crews could get control of the fire, about 5:30 p.m.

The fire burned roughly 90 to 100 acres, Fitzgerald said. Ultimately, no structures were harmed and no one was injured.

Meanwhile, significant ground has also been made on the Coal Hollow (southeast of Spanish Fork), Dollar Ridge Fire (south of Fruitland, Duchesne County) and the North Eden Fire (northeast Utah near the state’s border with Idaho and Wyoming.)
