BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — A man was seriously injured after he crashed into a deer while biking near Solitude Mountain Resort Friday morning, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a bike crash near the resort shortly before 7:55 a.m., Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said. She said a 50-year-old man was injured after colliding with a deer and was initially unconscious.

The man, who wasn’t immediately identified, was slightly conscious by the time crews arrived, Gray added. He was transported by helicopter to University of Utah Hospital in serious condition.

Gray said the biker was wearing a helmet.
