SALT LAKE CITY — The Coal Hollow Fire in Utah County grew to 6,661 acres Wednesday, prompting evacuations and pre-evacuation notices for some area residents, according to officials.

The fire was zero percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon and is burning in southeast Utah County, near U.S. Highway 6.

The Bear Trap Fire that began in late July on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation has now burned more than 2,000 acres as of Wednesday morning, according to officials.

Crews continue to fight wildfires across the state, including the Hill Top Fire in Sanpete County which has burned about 1,838 acres.

Mapbox gathers data from the Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination and from the agencies and first responders on the ground. There are many variables that can influence a fire's behavior and it can be difficult to accurately map a perimeter, especially during an active fire situation. Not all of Utah's fires are shown on the map.

Maps of the Bear Trap Fire and Dollar Ridge Fire perimeters have been added to the photo gallery below. Accurate perimeter mapping has not yet been conducted for the Hill Top Fire and Coal Hollow Fire due to Tuesday's significant fire activity, according to fire officials.

Those wishing to check if property is within a fire's perimeter can input the address on Mapbox's website in the top right corner.

Hilltop Fire (Sanpete County) grows to more than 1,800 acres

As of Wednesday evening, the Hilltop Fire has burned 1,838 acres and remains 12 percent contained, officials reported on Inciweb. Remaining evacuations in the area will be evaluated Thursday by fire officials and the Sanpete County Sheriff.

Coal Hollow Fire grows to 6,661, prompts evacuations in Utah County

The Coal Hollow Fire in southeast Utah County grew to 6,661 acres Wednesday, prompting evacuations and pre-evacuations near Scofield Reservoir, fire officials report. Multiple homes are being put on pre-evacuation status, according to Carbon County Emergency Services Specialist Whitney Waterfall. The fire is in Utah County, but is affecting areas in Carbon County to the south. Residents north and west of Scofield Reservoir, including Scofield Mountain Homes and Scofield Mountain Estates, are being put on pre-evacuation notice. The Madsen Bay and Scofield West areas are also on pre-evacuation notice, according to Waterfall. Evacuations are being ordered for the Aspen Cove subdivisions, Bear Canyon Road, Fish Creek, access roads in the Soldier Summit area and state Route 96 south of U.S. Highway 6, Waterfall said.

Campers west of Scofield Reservoir evacuated due to Coal Hollow Fire

Campers and a few residents are being evacuated west of Scofield Reservoir and in the Soldier Summit area due to activity from the Coal Hollow Fire, officials report.

Coal Hollow fire in Spanish Fork Canyon, in Utah County, is now requiring evacuations west of Scofield Reservoir and in the Soldier Summit area along US Highway 6. UCSO Search and Rescue is assisting with notifying campers and the few residents in these areas.

Lt. Gov. reports 'much better' day for the Hilltop Fire in Sanpete County

Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox said things went much better Wednesday on the scene of the Hilltop Fire, burning 15 miles north of Mt. Pleasant in Sanpete County.

The fire has burned 1,834 acres and is 12 percent contained as of Wednesday. It started on Monday and is thought to be human-caused.

Pre-evacuation notices announced in Scofield due to Coal Hollow Fire

Residents of Scofield in Utah County have been put on pre-evacuation notice due to the Coal Hollow Fire, according to a tweet from Utah fire officials. The fire started Saturday due to a lightning strike in southeast Utah County near U.S. Highway 6. It had burned 3,500 acres and was zero percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon. The pre-evacuation notices are due to "extreme fire behavior," officials said.

Jardine Fire in Cache County is 75 percent contained

The small Jardine Fire, burning in the Mount Naomi Wilderness in the Logan Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, is 75 percent contained as of Wednesday. The fire has burned 3.5 acres in steep, rocky terrain, national forest officials said in an emailed statement. Potential for fire spreading is low, officials said. No structures, campgrounds or communities are threatened, and there are no trail closures due to the fire, officials said. The fire is close to the Green Canyon Trail near Mount Jardine, and people hiking or backpacking that trail are asked to avoid the fire and firefighter operations.

'We have a window to beat this thing': Utah crews optimistic in battle against Hill Top Fire

Hope was improving as crews battled the Hill Tip Fire on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after mandatory evacuations were ordered in the Indianola area of Sanpete County. "Much more optimism today on the #HilltopFire. Crews had a great night cutting line and back-burning on the northeast side of the fire. Type 2 team (with) significant resources hits the ground today. We have a window to beat this thing," Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox tweeted Wednesday morning. Cox has a home in nearby Fairview and has been providing social media coverage on the fire since it started. More good news for residents of the area came late morning Wednesday when the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office announced that Milburn area residents will return to a "pre-evacuation status" at 2 p.m. "We are continually reassessing all evacuation areas." On Tuesday, the sheriff's office announced mandatory evacuations for Hideaway Valley south of South Ridge Road and west of Shadow Canyon Road. The Hill Top Fire, which started Monday, has burned approximately 1,830 acres and was 12 percent contained Wednesday. Fire officials announced Tuesday that the wildfire was human caused and that "witnesses are being cooperative."

The fire significantly picked up on Tuesday due to high temperatures and wind, fire officials reported. By the evening, fire commanders were reporting progress. "Dozers constructed fireline on the northern portion of the fire, where the fire is closest to structures," according to incident commanders. "Around 8 pm, once temperatures began to decrease, firefighters conducted a burnout in the northeast corner to reduce fuels and more effectively contain the perimeter. The fire is currently holding along privately owned fields on the northeast and southeast sides." Wednesday's efforts have focused on protecting U.S. Route 6. "Up canyon winds moved the fire primarily to the east and across Dairy Fork Road. Firefighting resources continue to monitor all values at risk. (Wednesday), limiting fire spread north toward the Route 6 corridor is the priority. The team is working with area utility companies as well as local law enforcement in the event the fire gets closer to … Route 6. If you are travelling through the area, do not stop along the road," according to the Fire Incident Management Team. Smoke from the Hill Top and Coal Hollow fires can be seen adjacent to each other. The lightning-caused Coal Hollow Fire started Aug. 4 and has burned 3,500 acres. On Wednesday, the Great Basin Team 4 took command of both the Coal Hollow and Hill Top fires. Fire officials cautioned motorists along U.S. 89 and U.S. 6 to watch for crews driving between the fires and the fire camp. Two structures have been burned in the Hill Top Fire, according to wildfire officials, and an estimated 350 people were evacuated, but no injuries have been reported. Previously, evacuations were ordered in Milburn and Blackhawk Estates. The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center in the LDS chapel in Indianola, 8000 E. 36500 North. The Fire Incident Management Team announced that a community meeting will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at a yet to be determined location. — Pat Reavy

Contractor prevents fire spread by moving blazing trailer away from trees in Park City

A contractor drove his burning trailer away from scrub oak trees and a home after it caught fire in Park City on Wednesday, officials said. The fire started on Buckboard Drive, northeast of Park City, early Wednesday afternoon, Park City Fire Spokeswoman Tricia Hazelrigg said. When the contractor noticed the trailer was on fire, he hopped in his truck and moved it away from the potential fire fuels, Hazelrigg said. His quick thinking, as well as the quick response from two fire stations, stopped a potential wildfire, she added. The trailer was a total loss, Hazelrigg said. She did not know who the contractor is or which company he works for, but said he was in the area for a driveway reconstruction.

Grouse Creek Fire in Box Elder County burns over 132K acres

The Grouse Creek Fire in Box Elder County has burned 132,220 acres and is at 92 percent containment, according to fire officials. Nevada's China Jim Fire and Utah's Goose Creek Fire combined July 29 to become the Grouse Creek Fire. Utah's Goose Creek Fire began July 26 after a lightning strike.

Coal Hollow Fire in Utah County burns 3.5K acres

The Coal Hollow Fire in Utah County has burned 3,500 acres and is at zero percent containment, according to fire officials. The fire began Saturday after lightning struck 11 miles northeast of Price. The blaze has forced the closure of Lake Fork Road, Clear Creek Road and Dairy Fork Road, and officials are now expanding those closures to include Fish Creek and Skyline Roads.

Dollar Ridge Fire still burning in Duchesne County at nearly 60K acres

The Dollar Ridge Fire has now burned 59,200 acres, according to a Facebook post from the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office. The fire is currently burning in the Timber Canyon area on U.S. Forest Service land, the sheriff's office said. The blaze is not threatening any structures and is being managed by a crew. Utah Fire Info reported the fire at 97 percent containment. The human-caused fire began July 1 and has since destroyed nearly 100 structures.
