ST. GEORGE — A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary and sexual assault that occurred in April, police said.
Spencer Monnett, of Hurricane, was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a Washington County Jail report.
The burglary and assault was reported near 300 N. Main St. in St. George on April 17, St. George police said on Facebook. A woman told police a man broke into her home, woke her up, put a cloth in her mouth and then sexually assaulted her, police said. She did not know who the man was, according to police.
An investigation led police to arrest Monnett, officials said. He was booked into jail for investigation of rape, object rape, sexual battery, burglary and assault, according to police.
"We would also like to thank (the victim) for her courage, strength and perseverance throughout this investigation," police officials said on Facebook. "On behalf of her and her family, we ask for privacy and respect as we now move forward to the next phase of this investigation."
