PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. (AP) — Days after a bitter runoff, Georgia Republican leaders united in backing Secretary of State Brian Kemp in the governor's race.
The GOP rally Thursday night at a Peachtree Corners hotel ballroom came after Democrat Stacey Abrams returned to the spotlight earlier in the day on the other side of the state to tout her jobs plan as she visited a union apprenticeship program for ironworkers near Savannah.
Among those to speak in favor of Kemp was Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Kemp's opponent in the runoff who had days earlier called him incompetent and devoid of ideas for the state.
Whereas Kemp and Republicans were quick to attack Abrams as being backed by out-of-state liberals, Abrams refrained from engaging Kemp or his supporter-in-chief — President Donald Trump.
