MILLCREEK — Officials identified a 28-year-old woman who was hit and killed by a TRAX train late Monday night while walking on the rail.

Lorica Sophya Gooden, of South Salt Lake, was struck by a northbound red line TRAX train about 500 yards south of the Millcreek station at 210 W. 3300 South about 9:50 p.m., according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky.

Gooden was "standing or walking" on the rail line at the time she was struck, Arky added.

"It's a very dark area, very hard to see," Arky told KSL Monday, noting that UTA officials were still investigating the incident. "But it's an area that's very difficult to spot somebody if somebody's out on the track there."

Arky urged pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings while near train tracks.
