SANDY — Police are still investigating after a man died when he was struck by a car in an area where there was not a crosswalk on Saturday evening, officials said.
The 54-year-old man was struck at 9:25 p.m. near 400 East and 9000 South, Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the crash, but later died from his injuries, Nielsen.
By Sunday morning, officials still were not releasing the man’s name because they had not yet located his family, Nielsen said. Officials were not sure if the man was from the area, and they were having trouble tracking down his relatives, Nielsen said.
The man was crossing the street from north to south when he was hit by a car heading east, Nielsen said. A 67-year-old woman was driving the car, he added. She was cooperating with police, and impairment was not a factor in the crash, Nielsen said.
Police were still investigating the circumstances of the crash as of Sunday morning.
The crash impacted traffic from the Real Salt Lake game, which ended while police were investigating the scene, Nielsen said.
