SANDY — A 54-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a street Saturday night, officials report.
It happened about 9 p.m. near 400 East and 9000 South, according to a tweet from the Sandy Police Department.
The man was alone and crossed the street in an area with no crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle driven by woman in her 60s, a Sandy police public information officer said at the scene.
Medical crews attempted to help the man, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The man's identity has not been released pending notification of family.
Officials closed the eastbound lanes of 9000 South and one westbound lane as they investigated. The lanes were expected to open at about 1 a.m.
