MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — Deputies released the name of a 66-year-old man Tuesday who was found dead Friday in a subdivision above Mt. Pleasant after an ATV accident.

Robert O’Brien, of Spanish Fork, left Friday about 11 a.m. to camp and hike in the area. When he failed to contact his wife by 5 p.m., she became concerned since he usually called to check in, according to Sanpete County Sgt. Greg Peterson.

She called family and friends who then went searching for O’Brien in the area where he said he'd be camping. A family friend found O’Brien underneath his ATV, which appeared to have flipped on top of him while he drove on the rough terrain, Peterson said.

The friend called 911 and first responders were dispatched to the Aspen Hills subdivision where O’Brien was pronounced dead at the scene.

O’Brien was alone at the time of the accident and was not wearing a helmet, Peterson said.

Peterson urged ATV drivers to be aware of their conditions and to wear protective clothing and helmets.

“You never know what could happen,” he said.
