ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a Utah teenager told police he tried to blow up a homemade explosive device in his backpack at school because he'd been looking at Islamic State propaganda and wanted to cause fear. The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports prosecutors showed a video Monday of the 16-year-old talking to police after the smoking but inert bomb was found at the school March. It shows the teen saying he wouldn't care if anyone got hurt because he sees death as a new way of life.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say the body of a man who disappeared while swimming in a reservoir at Newton Dam has been found. The Cache County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Austin Nsegiyumva's body was found about 50 feet from shore under 8 feet of water. Lt. Brian Locke told the Deseret News that a search team had previously combed that area but there had been storms recently and thick brush on the bottom of the reservoir that may have delayed finding the body.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Records show U.S. Senate candidate Mitt Romney raised nearly $2 million for his campaign in the past two months, giving him a large financial edge on his Republican opponent in the Utah primary. A filing with the Federal Election Commission shows the ex-presidential candidate and Massachusetts governor also spent $1.4 million in the period between April and June. His opponent, state lawmaker Mike Kennedy, raised $152,000 over the same period and has $66,000 on hand and debt totaling $295,000
BICKNELL, Utah (AP) — Officials say a Utah man died following exposure to an industrial pesticide material, leading to the temporary closure of a medical clinic. The Deseret News reports Wayne County spokeswoman Kassidee Brown says 70-year-old George Coombs, of Teasdale, encountered what officials say was aluminum phosphide Sunday at a Teasdale home. He was taken to the Wayne Community Health Center in Bicknell, where he died.
