WEST VALLEY CITY — A driver who was ejected from his car that rolled during a crash tried to flee police in West Valley City Sunday afternoon, police said.

Around 3:50 p.m., a male driver was near 5800 W. Parkway Boulevard (2700 South) in West Valley City when he tried to pass a car using the oncoming lane, said West Valley Police Lt. Amy Maurer. The driver tried to avoid hitting an oncoming truck, overcorrected his vehicle and hit a pole. The car then rolled several times and the driver was ejected, Maurer said. The driver got up and started running, but was located by police officers.

The driver initially refused medical treatment for scratches and abrasions, but was transported to the hospital to be checked for other pain, Maurer said.

No charges have been made but police are investigating the use of alcohol by the driver, she said. No one else was involved in the accident or injured.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
