FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A former Davis County sheriff's deputy who was fired for alleged misconduct on a SWAT team in 2012 has filed a $1 million civil suit against the county.
The (Ogden) Standard-Examiner reported Thursday that Clint Shaw filed the suit accusing the county of violating terms of a confidential settlement after he was reinstated but subjected to what he said was unreasonable discipline.
Shaw says he applied for police jobs in Salt Lake and Summit counties, but wasn't hired because the disciplinary documents were placed in his personnel file in violation of the secrecy agreement.
Davis County Deputy Attorney Michael Kendall had no comment.
Shaw was on a SWAT team that confronted an armed, suicidal man at an apartment in Centerville.
Undersheriff Brent Peters said Shaw agitated the suspect, requiring arresting officers to use unnecessary force to subdue him.
