WEST JORDAN — Police are investigating a shooting in which one person was injured Sunday evening.
The shooting was reported about 6 p.m. on 7000 South between 4600 West and 4700 West, according to West Jordan Police Sgt. J.C. Holt.
A male was shot during what police believe may have been an altercation between two groups.
Witnesses told police several individuals were inside a parked car on the side of the road while a group of males was walking down the sidewalk. At some point, words were exchanged between the groups and somebody inside the car brandished a handgun toward the group outside, Holt said.
One of the males outside then threw a rock at the car, breaking a window, according to witnesses.
As the car sped off, several shots were fired from inside the car toward the males outside, Holt said.
One suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, and transported himself to the hospital, Holt said.
Investigating officers were able to locate the car and some of the males involved. They did not release any ages of those involved.
Officials are not sure if the incident is gang-related, but Holt said “there are certainly some indicators that would lead us to believe so.”
Authorities don’t believe there is any danger to the public.
