LONDON (AP) — Harry Kane will captain England at the World Cup in Russia.
England coach Gareth Southgate informed his squad of the decision at a meeting on Monday night.
Southgate says Kane has "belief and high standards and it is a great message for the team to have a captain who has shown that it is possible to be one of the best in the world over a consistent period of time."
The 24-year-old striker has scored 12 times in 23 England appearances since making his debut in 2015.
England plays Tunisia, Panama and Belgium in the group stage at the World Cup next month.
