SALT LAKE CITY — Eastbound state Route 201 reopened at I-215 following a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The crash took place about 5:40 p.m. near the intersection of state Route 201 and I-215 west, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said. Traffic from eastbound S.R. 201 was diverted onto southbound I-215 West for several hours following the crash, Royce said.
Traffic was slowing in the area when a motorcyclist came up to the slowing traffic, Royce said. The motorcyclist used some evasive maneuvers to try and avoid some cars, but he hit a car and flew off the motorcycle, Royce said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Royce said. The name of the motorcyclist was not released because authorities were still notifying his family members.
The man was not wearing a helmet during the crash, Royce said.
By 10 p.m., the highway had been fully reopened.
