ROOSEVELT — A man is in extremely critical condition following a crash on U.S. 40 on Saturday.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jacob Cox said the crash occurred when the driver of a westbound truck near 1700 West in Roosevelt veered to the right of the roadway, then overcorrected left and ended up in the eastbound lanes, colliding with a sedan traveling that direction. The crash occurred shortly before 5:20 p.m.

The driver of the truck, later identified as 26-year-old Roosevelt man Cameron Martinez, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, Cox said. Martinez was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in extremely critical condition.

A 4-year-old passenger in Martinez's truck was correctly restrained in a child's seat and had only minor injuries, according to police.

The female driver of the sedan was "pinned due to the severity of the collision and had to be extricated," and was in "poor condition," the Utah Highway Patrol said in a release. She was also airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center.

"Evidence gathered at the scene indicates that Martinez's excessive speed may have contributed to the collision," the Utah Highway Patrol said in its release.
