FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Police say two 18-year-old students died when the car they were in crashed into a wall and burst into flames.
Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Tracy Figone said in a news release that Barrett Riley and Edgar Monserratt were trapped inside the Tesla Model S on Tuesday evening. Eighteen-year-old passenger Alexander Berry was ejected from the car and was taken to a hospital. There was no word on his condition.
News outlets report the teens who died were slated to graduate from Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale later this month.
Figone said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Wendy Mascolo told television stations she witnessed the crash and stayed with several teens who had been following in a separate vehicle until their parents arrived.
