NEW YORK (AP) — Sometimes it takes a colorful judge like no other to handle a colorful case like no other.

Enter U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood to oversee a case affecting President Donald Trump, his longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen and a porn star.

The 74-year-old Harvard-educated Democrat is taking heat online for rulings regarding what evidence seized in raids on Cohen's home and office are subject to attorney-client privilege. Some conservative commentators have criticized her rulings.

Wood's courthouse colleagues are supportive, including Judge Richard Berman, who has had many high-profile trials. He says the case is like none the courthouse has ever seen. He says she's the perfect for it because she's smart, gracious, collaborative, unflappable and well-prepared.

Regardless, any resulting criminal charges would most likely be randomly assigned to another judge.
