NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Authorities say the son of a Louisiana woman whose body was found has been arrested.
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, 44-year-old Byron Montgomery was booked Tuesday on second-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges.
News outlets report that the naked and decomposing body of 63-year-old Patricia Davis was found in a ditch on Oct. 31 in New Orleans East.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto says investigators came to believe that Davis was killed at her Marrero home and later dumped in the city.
The case earlier cost a sheriff's office sergeant his job for allegedly lying about his decision to stop deputies from entering the victim's home after they heard screams from inside, a few days before her body was found.
It's unclear if Montgomery has a lawyer.
