BOISE, Idaho — A judge ordered prison time Tuesday for a man known as the “Great Outdoors Bandit” for robberies in Utah and Idaho.
Josue Daniel Alfaro, 32, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 63 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho.
On Dec. 20, 2017, Alfaro pleaded guilty to five counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery. Alfaro admitted to robbing and attempting to rob the following amounts from the following banks:
- Dec. 21, 2016: $3,174 from U.S. Bank at 105 W. Overland Road in Boise, Idaho
- Dec. 21, 2016: $2,100 from Idaho Central Credit Union at 1615 S. Celebration Avenue in Meridian, Idaho
- March 24, 2017: $3,469 from the Bank of the West at 9140 W. Emerald Street in Boise, Idaho
- May 24, 2017: $12,736 from Alpine Credit Union at 351 E. 800 South in Orem, Utah

- Aug. 7, 2017: $100 from Clarity Federal Credit Union at 555 S. Meridian Road in Meridian, Idaho
For the each of the robberies, Alfaro concealed his face with a baseball cap and black sunglasses. Alfaro handed the tellers notes demanding money.
One of the notes used in the March 24 Bank of the West robbery read: “Give me money or I will shoot the teller next to you.” Another note used in the Aug. 7 Pioneer Federal Credit Union robbery read: “give me all of your hundred dollar bills, I have a gun,” officials said in the news release.
Alfaro was arrested on Aug. 13 at the Los Angeles International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Brussels, Belgium.
Multiple agencies assisted with the investigation including the Boise Police Department, the Meridian Police Department and the FBI field offices in Boise, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles.
