MIAMI (AP) — All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez and Hall of Fame radio announcer Rafael "Felo" Ramirez will be honored by the Miami Marlins with plaques on the plaza at Marlins Park.

Fernandez died in a boat crash in September 2016. Ramirez died at 94 in August.

"Jose, on the field, and Felo, in the booth, each left a lasting legacy," Marlins CEO Derek Jeter said Thursday. "We wanted to commemorate them with plaques on the West Plaza for our fans and family members. Their memories will live on in our hearts and in our community."

Last season the Marlins encased Fernandez's clubhouse locker in glass. That tribute will be discontinued, and plans announced by previous team owner Jeffrey Loria to erect a statue of Fernandez have been abandoned.
