PROVO — One person died and another was critically injured in a head-on crash that closed a section of road for several hours Wednesday, police said.
Police responded to a report of a crash near 1860 South and Colorado Avenue shortly after 11:10 a.m., according to Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King.
"One vehicle drove into the oncoming lane of traffic and the vehicle struck head-on (with another vehicle)," she said.
Two people, a man and a woman, were transported to a hospital where one died from their injuries, King said. She did not say which person died or what vehicle they were in, but said there was one occupant in each vehicle. Their ages and names were not immediately released.
The crash remains under investigation.
The collision closed all east and westbound traffic on 1860 South from State Street past the scene of the crash for nearly three hours. However, Provo police said the road reopened about 2 p.m.
This story will be updated as soon as more information is made available.
Editor's note: Provo police initially said the crash occurred at 1860 S. State St. but 1860 South was closed at State Street.
