LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Donte Clark scored 24 points and Marquis Salmon grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds and Texas Southern defeated Alcorn State 78-71 on Saturday.

Salmon's rebounding effort ties him with three other players for most rebounds in a game this season at the Division I level. He collared 12 defensive rebounds and the rest on the offensive end. Alcorn State's entire team only had a nine-rebound advantage over Salmon. He also scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Texas Southern (12-19, 12-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) used a 14-2 run in a five-minute span and led 73-63 with 3:45 left and remained in control.

The Tigers bolted to a 19-7 lead before Alcorn State responded with a 14-6 run and closed to within 25-21 with 8:15 before halftime. The Braves went on an 8-2 run with a pair of baskets each by Troymain Crosby and A.J. Mosby to close the half and Alcorn State led 39-36 at the break.

Crosby led Alcorn State (11-20, 7-11) with 20 points.
