Canisius shares MAAC title with Rider, 1st since 1993-94

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Takal Molson scored 24 points, Isaiah Reese had 17 points and seven assists and Canisius clinched a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season championship with a 98-74 victory over Marist on Sunday.

Canisius entered the day in a tie for first in the MAAC with Rider, who cruised past Iona Sunday to take the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. It's Canisius' first regular-season championship since 1993-94 — the season the Golden Griffins set school records with 21 regular-season wins and 22 overall.

Malik Johnson scored 15, Jonathan Sanks 14 and senior Jermaine Crumpton 13 for Canisius (21-10, 15-3).

Molson scored 17 points in the first half as the Golden Griffins held Marist without a field goal for the final 4:49 of the frame and closed on an 11-2 run for a 47-39 lead.

Marist (6-24, 4-14) is the No. 11 seed. Ryan Funk paced the Red Foxes with 17 points.
