Savannah State beats NC A&T in MEAC showdown

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Javaris Jenkins scored 21 points, made 4 of 6 from 3-point range and blocked three shots Monday night to help Savannah State beat North Carolina A&T 108-106.

The Tigers (13-13, 10-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won their ninth straight and extended their lead in the conference standings above the Aggies (15-11, 8-3), their closest challenger.

Khalen Pinkett's dunk with 1:04 left capped a 6-0 run and made it 107-101 for the Tigers.

Devonte Boykins made two free throws at 54 seconds and a 3-pointer at 14 seconds to cut the deficit to one.

Alante Fenner split a pair of free throws for the Tigers with 12 seconds left and Jenkins blocked Aaren Edmead's shot out of bounds with two seconds left. Dexter McClanahan stole it from Kameron Langley on the final play.

McClanahan reached his 1,000th career point on a runner in the first minute of the second half. He finished with 18, Fenner scored 17, John Grant Jr. added 12 and Zach Sellers 10.

Denzel Keyes had a career-high 28 points to go with 13 rebounds and led five in double figures for the Aggies, who dropped into a second-place tie with Bethune Cookman.
