SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating an incident in which an Adult Probation and Parole agent fired a shot at the scene of a burglary in Salt Lake City late Sunday.

Salt Lake police responded to Boost Mobile at 715 S. 900 West after receiving a report of a burglary in progress around 11:40 p.m., according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Gary Trost.

Adult Probation and Parole agents who happened to be nearby were the first law enforcement to arrive on scene. One of those agents fired a shot in the back parking lot before Salt Lake police arrived, Trost said.

No one was injured.

What led to the shot fired was not immediately clear.

Several suspects then drove away in two cars, Trost said. Police pursued one of the vehicles until it stopped at 1870 N. Rose Park Lane. The male driver tried to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody. The male passenger surrendered peacefully.

Their names were not initially released.

The other vehicle was found abandoned in West Valley City, Trost said. Police are not sure how many people had been in that car.

West Valley police are leading the investigation.
