Loyola Marymount holds on for 85-79 win over Pepperdine

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Steven Haney scored a career-best 31 points and Loyola Marymount held on for an 85-79 win over Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon, snapping a three-game skid.

Haney was 8 of 15 from the field, including six 3-pointers, and made all nine of his free throws for the Lions (8-17, 3-11 West Coast Conference). Mattias Markusson added 16 points with 10 rebounds. James Batemon and Cameron Allen scored 13 points each. Batemon dished 10 assists.

The Lions led 43-35 at the break but Pepperdine started the second half on a 15-7 run capped by a Colbey Ross 3-pointer to close to 51-50 with 15:16 to play. Haney replied with a pair of 3-pointers and Zafir Williams added a third to help stretch the lead to 64-55 with 10:25 left and the Lions held on for the win.

Matthew Atewe scored 18 points and led five players in double figure scoring for the Waves (4-22, 1-13), who have lost five straight.
