Childs' double-double leads BYU past Santa Clara 80-58

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Yoeli Childs scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished five assists and BYU pulled away to defeat Santa Clara 80-58 on Thursday night.

Elijah Bryant and T.J. Haws added 14 points and six assists apiece and Dalton Nixon 12 points for the Cougars (19-7, 8-5 West Coast Conference), who had 22 assists on 34 baskets.

Kai Healy led the Broncos (8-17, 5-8) with 12 points) and Josip Vrankic and K.J. Feagin had 11 each.

Vrankic and Healy combined for the first 14 Santa Clara points of the second half to cut a 41-31 deficit to five. Then Nixon and Bryant hit 3-pointers to ignite a 13-0 run for a 64-45 lead with 8:44 to play.

BYU shot 65 percent in the second half and 59 percent for the game (34 of 58), while the Broncos shot 31 percent.

Childs' double-double was his third straight, giving him 13 for the season, second in the WCC.
