Person, Varnado help Troy post overtime win

TROY, Ala. (AP) — Wesley Person scored 24 points, including two 3-pointers late in regulation, and Jordon Varnado scored six of his 18 points in overtime to lead Troy to an 89-83 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday night.

Person hit a 3-pointer with 1:06 left in regulation to get the Trojans within three and tied it with another trey with 15 seconds left. Javan Johnson blocked a shot at the rim by the Red Wolves' Tamas Bruce, who then missed the putback at the buzzer to send the game to overtime tied at 78.

Varnado added 13 rebounds and Alex Hicks also had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Troy (11-13, 5-6 Sun Belt).

Ty Cockfield scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Red Wolves (9-16, 4-8) with Deven Simms adding 16 points and 11 rebounds.
