6-vehicle accident blocks lanes, causes traffic delays on southbound I-15 near Layton

LAYTON — A six-vehicle accident on southbound I-15 temporarily blocked several lanes and slowed traffic to Roy during the Wednesday morning commute.

The pileup occurred around 6:45 a.m. on southbound I-15 near Layton Parkway, according to KSL Traffic Center. At least six vehicles were involved in the collision and blocked the three left lanes and shoulder.

A few lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m., but traffic was backed up from Layton Parkway to 5600 South in Roy, causing delays for commuters. The HOV lane remained closed until about 7:45 a.m., but the backups and delays remained until about 8:55 a.m., according to KSL Traffic Center.

Details about the cause of the accident were not immediately released.
