BOUNTIFUL — Two Utah men have been charged in federal court with sparking and failing to control a fire on national forest land that torched 75 acres in August.
Jayson Ross Orvis, 48, and James Troy Golden, 41, were charged in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City on Jan. 23.
Orvis, of Bountiful, also faces four counts of altering roads or structures on forest land without permit for allegedly buidling a shooting pavilion, 50-foot target shooting rail, outfitter tent and utility vehicle road.
The offenses, all misdemeanors, are punishable by up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine for each count.
A spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber said in a statement that his office will seek restitution, but the amount hasn't been determined because an investigation still is pending. The office said property had been damaged in the fire but gave no details.

The fire temporarily closed parts of City Creek Canyon, Bonneville Shoreline Mueller Park and North Canyon trails.
