PROVO — A firefighter who admitted breaking into fire stations and stealing drugs has been sentenced to probation.
In a sentencing hearing Jan. 22, potential prison and jail sentences were suspended and three years of probation was ordered for Brendan James Ivie, 21, of Pleasant Grove.
A former part-time firefighter for the Unified Fire Authority, Ivie pleaded guilty in November to three counts of burglary, a third-degree felony, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and two counts of theft, a class B misdemeanor.
In exchange for Ivie's plea, additional charges were dismissed including burglary, attempted burglary, two counts of theft and two counts of drug possession.
Under Ivie's probation, he will required to pay a fine of $1,300 and complete a substance abuse treatment program. If he successfully completes probation, the two felony charges may be reduced to misdemeanors, according to the plea deal.
On four occasions — June 10, July 26, Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 — Ivie broke into the Pleasant Grove Fire Department, got into the ambulance and took boxes that contain narcotics for medical use, such as fentanyl, diazepam, ketamine, morphine and midazolam, according to charging documents.

Police on Sunday arrested a part-time firefighter accused of breaking into the Pleasant Grove fire station and stealing drugs.After those incidents, a surveillance camera was installed and recorded as Ivie pulled up to the fire station again to attempt to burglarize the department a fifth time, and the third time in three days, police said. Ivie was caught attempting to enter through a window he had broken the night before, according to police.
When he was arrested, Ivie had an IV catheter port line already fixed on his arm and inserted into a vein, a police affidavit states. Detectives reported finding the previously stolen drug boxes when they searched Ivie's car and residence.
Ivie was employed by Unified Fire Authority at the time of his arrest. He was immediately removed from the department's schedule until his employment was terminated Sept. 10, according to a spokesman.
Ivie had previously interned for several agencies in Utah County, including the Pleasant Grove Fire Department.
