SALT LAKE CITY — The Governor’s Office of Economic Development Thursday announced Autonomous Solutions Inc. will expand in Utah.
Founded in 2000 as a spinoff from Utah State University, the company is headquartered in Petersboro, Cache County.
The company manufactures automation technology that retrofits to existing industrial vehicles and allows users to manage their entire fleet autonomously. The company serves the mining, farming, automotive, manufacturing and defense industries.
“In order for us to maintain our leadership in the unmanned vehicle space we must continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with machine learning and artificial intelligence,” said Mel Torrie, Autonomous Solutions' chief executive officer and founder. “This project will ensure that we continue to offer our customers and partners the most advanced, safe and simple autonomous solutions.”
As part of its expansion project, the company will need significant road improvements at an expected cost of $833,000. The GOED board of directors has approved a post-performance Industrial Assistance Fund grant of $166,600, not to exceed 20 percent of the total road improvement costs, a news release stated.
ASI will create up to 135 jobs over the next five years, with total wages in aggregate expected to exceed 200 percent of the Cache County average wage. The projected new state wages over the life of the agreement are estimated to be approximately $26.6 million, while projected new state tax revenues as a result of corporate, payroll and sales taxes are estimated to be $3.3 million.
Meanwhile, Parker Hannifin Corp. announced the company will relocate more operations to Utah, adding up to 77 jobs, $6.7 million in new state revenue and $2.8 million in capital investment, a news release stated.
The Ohio-based company manufactures motion and control technology systems that provide solutions for the mobile, industrial and aerospace markets with locations in 39 U.S. states and 48 countries worldwide.
“The economic climate in Utah is quite favorable for business development, and the area is an excellent place for our team members to live and work," said Doug Dilley, commercial business unit manager for the Control Systems Division operation in Ogden.
Parker Hannifin will create up to 77 jobs over the next six years, with total wages in aggregate required to exceed 110 percent of the county average wage. The projected new state wages over the life of the agreement are expected to be approximately $17,786,900, while projected new state tax revenues estimated to be $6.7 million over the six-year agreement period.
