SPRINGVILLE — Springville police are asking for the public’s help to locate a man who they say propositioned a 13-year-old girl for sex.
The man messaged a girl on Instagram saying he was from Oklahoma and was 35 years old, Springville police detective Miguel Lee said.
Almost instantly, the man offered to have sex with the girl, Lee said. The girl then went to talk to her mom and they contacted police.
The IP address for the account that messaged the girl appears to be from out of the country, the detective said. The account name is haasanamigo.
The man also offered to come to Utah and get a hotel room in order to spend time with the girl. Police believe there is a chance the man might be in the state, Lee said.
Anyone who can identify the man is asked to contact Springville police.
Lee said parents should be involved in their children’s social media lives.
“It’s a pretty good rule of thumb that if you don’t know the person, don’t talk to that person,” Lee said.
