SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Max Heidegger scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half and UC Santa Barbara routed NAIA Pacific Union 81-49 on Saturday night.

UC Santa Barbara (11-3) is 6-0 at home, has won three straight since a nine-point loss to Southern California on Dec. 17, and is off to its best start since opening the 2007-08 season 11-2. The Gauchos started last season 2-11.

Heidegger was 7 of 14 from the field. Leland King II had 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Jalen Canty added 10 points and 10 rebounds for UC Santa Barbara, which missed 17 shots from long range but outrebounded Pacific Union 58-31.

Jayson Marquez scored 13 points to lead the Pioneers.

King scored seven points during a 17-4 run to open the game as the Gauchos built a 36-18 halftime advantage and cruised from there.

It was the first meeting between the schools.
