Columbia thumps Maine 83-71 for 2nd win of the year

NEW YORK (AP) — Quinton Adlesh had 16 points with a career-high seven assists and Mike Smith added another 16 points with eight assists as Columbia thumped Maine, 83-71 to earn its second win of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Columbia (2-10) shot 50 percent (17-34) from the field in the first half, compared to Maine's 30 percent, to take a 46-27 halftime advantage. The Lions had dropped nine straight before beating Maine.

Lukas Meisner had 10 points and nine rebounds for Columbia, which finished the game hitting 46 percent (31-67) while limiting the Bears to 23-of-62 (37 percent) shooting. Patrick Tape hit 6 of 7 from the floor for 12 points with six rebounds.

The Lions started pulling away midway through the first period after Tape slammed home a dunk and followed with a jumper for a 24-16 lead at the 9:27 mark.

Aaron Calixte led the Black Bears (3-12) with 19 points.
