Henderson scores 19, IUPUI pulls away from Kokomo 87-76

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — T.J. Henderson scored 19 points, Ron Patterson added 16 and IUPUI ended a six-game losing streak with an 87-76 win over NAIA UI-Kokomo on Friday.

Kokomo (6-10) led 36-35 at the half and used nine-straight points, six by Trequan Spivey, and a 13-2 run as Spivey hit a 3-pointer to go up nine less than four minutes into the second half.

The Jaguars (3-8) responded with 12 straight that turned into a 17-2 run for a 59-53 lead just past the midpoint. Kokomo was 1 for 12 with two turnovers in that stretch. Henderson and Jaylen Minnett each scored six.

Kokomo got within four with under 8 minutes to play but Henderson scored eight points as the Jags went 9 of 13 down the stretch with two 3s and made all four free throws.

Spivey had 16 points and Trent Elliott 14 for Kokomo.

When IUPUI played its first game ever, on Jan. 22, 1972, the opponent was Kokomo, which won 91-82. They played again later in the season with the same result but haven't played since.
