CHUBBUCK — Three juveniles have been charged with vandalizing the Christmas decorations of a former Griswold Award winner.

According to the Chubbuck Police Department, the juveniles have been charged with misdemeanor malicious injury to property. Because the suspects are under the age of 18, authorities said their names will not be released, the Idaho State Journal reported.

On Dec. 12, Scott and Suzette Kinney reported to police that much of the Christmas yard display at their Cole Street home had been vandalized.

According to the Kinneys, the bases to the plastic trees were knocked down and destroyed, a festive mailbox was damaged, a large animated rocking horse was smashed to bits and the heads were off the snowmen.

“They walked all the way through the yard just knocking stuff over and stomping on it,” Scott told the Journal last week.

The Kinneys spent more than seven hours mending and replacing the broken lights and ornaments. However, the family has been accumulating thousands of dollars’ worth of Christmas decorations for more than four decades, and some of the damaged items are irreplaceable.

The Kinney family’s large-scale Christmas decorations are well-known around the area. Last year, they won the Griswold award during Chubbuck’s annual Christmas light contest.

According to the Chubbuck Police Department, the juvenile suspects were apprehended thanks to assistance from the community, the Pocatello Police Department and Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25.
