Efianayi, Gardner-Webb hold off Hampton 80-79

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — David Efianayi scored four of his 19 points in the final 2:04 and Gardner-Webb held off Hampton 80-79 on Sunday.

Efianayi hit two free throws to give Gardner-Webb a 78-77 lead and he made a tip-in shot with the shot clock winding down on their next possession for a three-point lead.

Greg Heckstall made two free throws to pull Hampton to 80-79. Gardner-Webb dribbled down the clock and Efianayi missed shot in the lane, but it was tipped out to midcourt and gathered by the Bulldogs. Jamaal Robateau missed the front end of a 1-and-1 for Gardner-Webb with 13.8 seconds to go and after a timeout, Jermaine Marrow missed a long 3-pointer.

Christian Turner missed two free throws with 2.7 seconds left and Heckstall was off on a half-court shot at the buzzer.

DJ Laster added 13 points, and Turner and Liam O'Reilly each scored 12 for Gardner-Webb (4-8).

Kalin Fisher scored 16 points for Hampton (4-8) and Marrow had 14.
