Bethune-Cookman holds off Cal Poly, 67-53

DAYTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Malik Maitland scored 21 points, Shawntrez Davis added 19 and Bethune-Cookman beat Cal Poly 67-53 on Tuesday night.

Maitland was 8 of 17 from the floor and made three 3-pointers. Davis was 6-of-14 shooting and had 10 rebounds. Isaiah Bailey chipped in 11 points for Bethune-Cookman (5-5). Soufiyane Diakite and Houston Smith each grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Josh Martin had a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth career double-double to lead Cal Poly (4-6). Donovan Fields had 15 points and Victor Joseph chipped in 10.

Bethune-Cookman had a four-point halftime lead and stretched it to 54-38 with 10:30 to play. Joseph made a 3-pointer to spark a 14-1 run and the Mustangs pulled to 55-52 with five minutes left before the Wildcats closed on a 12-1 run.

Cal Poly shot just 33 percent from the field and missed 22 3-pointers.
