CEDAR CITY — State Route 14 reopened Thursday morning after a rock slide that closed the highway for at least an hour, Iron County dispatch officials said.
The rock slide occurred on the highway about six miles east of Cedar City, Iron County dispatch officials said. Utah Department of Transportation officials added both directions of the highway were closed, but dispatch said the highway was reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
The agency added UDOT workers were remaining on scene cleaning up and patching the road and that drivers should still use caution while driving in the area. UDOT spokesman John Gleason said the rockslide was minor and much less severe than originally believed.
It's not the first rock slide in that stretch of SR-14. In 2009, a massive landslide closed the highway for several weeks. In 2011, an even bigger landslide closed the highway for months.
