DELTA, Utah (AP) — An 18-year-old Utah man has been charged with drunken driving and automobile homicide in a fatal crash in Millard County that claimed the life of his 15-year-old female passenger.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports George Schafer of Delta was scheduled to make his initial appearance in 4th District Court Wednesday in the death of Noelia Orona.
Authorities say Schafer's vehicle left the road and overturned in a field in Delta Friday about 130 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
A sheriff's deputy responded after a resident reported a suspicious person was knocking on doors and talking about an accident.
The Millard County sheriff's office says Schafer allegedly fled when a woman said she'd call police but later returned to the scene of the accident. It's not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
